Tuesday August 14th, 2pm.
Matt finally went in for his operation this morning and has just come out. We are expecting the first results to come late this afternoon. We will continue with updates as they come to hand.
Tuesday August 14th, 6pm.
Matt is now talking and able to slightly move his arms. He still has no feeling in his fingers however that should come back in time. The operation was a success in achieving what the surgeons wanted at this point.
Wednesday August 15th, 10am.
Matt is of high spirits this morning and is able to move his arms much better than yesterday. He can feel twinges in his fingers which is a great sign and is hoping to be able to SMS within the next day or two to get more movement back into his fingers. Matt has gone from a full neck brace with absolute restriction to a softer brace which allows him some movement.
This morning Matt woke up asking for his Auntie Bevs famous Marsbar slice which she is working away on as we speak. Today is a better day all round.... but there's still a very long road ahead.
Wednesday August 15th, 11am.
Some good news. Matthew is now talking and again in high spirits. He's sitting up and breathing unaided. While he still does not have movement in his fingers he is able to move his arms around although not lift them at present.
Matthew has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the Spinal Unit for recovery. In addition he is now asking for physiotherapy to get his rehabilitation going!
Wednesday Augus t5th, 1.30pm.
Matt is eating and has had half a hamburger, chocky ice cream and some milo! He is breathing well and wide awake. Is in a good mind at the moment. He will be eating Auntie Bevs Marsbar slice in about an hour or so.
Matt is sitting upright and able to talk freely.
Thursday August 23rd, 3.00pm.
Well it's been a very long week, but things are starting to look up for Matt! He's getting feeling back into his arms and is able to do arm curls. He's now got a mobile phone and is just about to start texting people. This is a huge positive and his steps for rehabilitation have started.
This morning another breakthrough! He has felt spasms in his legs. At present he's unable to control where and when they happen but none the less this is great news as it means there are messages getting from his brain down to his legs. It's a major positive step forward.
Also, Arnotts were good enough to send Matt a heap of Tim Tams packets and a 'get well' so many thanks to Arnotts for their thoughts and contribution. It it means a lot to Matt, as does all of the support he's been getting!!

Thanks Arnotts!
